Welcome to Year 6

Welcome to our new Class Page!

Hello and welcome to the Year 6 class page!

Year 6 are taught by Miss Lonsdale (me!) and our wonderful teaching assistant is Miss Harris. In Year 6 we have high expectations that children will set a brilliant example to the younger classes in school by working hard and behaving well. In return, children can expect fast-paced, engaging lessons and lots of opportunities to enjoy learning at St Anne’s.

Please see our class poster to find out what we are learning about this half term.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message! Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.

Being prepared for school each day

Children will need a coat appropriate for the weather, a bottle filled with water, a bag for reading books and homework. Pencil cases and other school equipment will be provided for children by school. It is important we limit what is being brought into school so things don’t get lost or damaged.

Break and lunch times

Break time is at 10:30am every day. We encourage the children to bring in a healthy snack from home.

Lunch time is at 12:10pm till 1:10pm. Children have the choice of a packed lunch from home or a school dinner.

Homework is given out every Friday to be returned on the Wednesday morning of the following week. It consists of a spelling activity based on the week’s spellings and a Maths activity which is related to our KIRF (key instant recall fact) for the half term.

To find out more about our KIRF for this half term, please see our class poster.

Expectations are that children complete their homework on time and we run a homework group on Thursday lunchtimes if this is not completed at home.

Children are also expected to read three times per week and have this acknowledged by a parent by getting their reading diary signed. Reading diaries are handed in on a Thursday morning. Children receive 2 Dojo points for completing their homework on time and three Dojo points for reading.

We also have a reading raffle for any children who read three times a week, every week. The raffle is drawn at the end of each half term and there are some amazing prizes to be won! The Book Wizard is also on the look out for super readers and regularly awards tokens for our very own book vending machine! Homework and reading are proven to be hugely beneficial to children’s learning and also helps families to gain a better understanding of what we are up to and learning about at school! In Year 6, it also helps to prepare children for their transition to secondary school.

Our PE day is Friday afternoons

Swimming is on Wednesday afternoons

We have swimming on Wednesday afternoons. Children need a swimming costume/trunks and a towel. A swimming cap for long hair is recommended, as are goggles. We also have PE on Friday afternoons. Children need their outdoor PE kit for this.
