Welcome to Year 6

Welcome to our Class Page!

Hello and welcome to the Year 6 class page!

I’m Miss Ashmore and working in our classroom this year is Mrs Healy and Miss Clarke, who will teach the children on a Wednesday morning 8.45-11am.

We thrive on the energy we get from one another and always there to lend a smile during tricky days!

Being prepared for school each day

Children will need a coat appropriate for the weather, a bottle filled with water, a bag for reading books and homework. School equipment will be provided for children by school. It is important we limit what is being brought into school so things don’t get lost or damaged.

Children may bring in their own pencil (or pen if they have a pen license), a red pen and purple pen. Other equipment should be kept to a minimum, however, they may keep pencil crayons of their own in their tray.

Break and lunch times

Break time is at 10:30am every day. We encourage the children to bring in a healthy snack from home.

Lunch time is at 12:10pm till 1:10pm. Children have the choice of a packed lunch from home or a school dinner.

Homework is set every Friday and consists of a Maths task and a spelling task.

Children should return homework on a Wednesday to receive their homework dojo points. IF homework isn’t submitted on this day, they will be required to complete the homework set at homework club on a Thursday.

It is also expected that children read 3 times each week which should be recorded in their reading diary. On a Thursday, this will be checked and children who have achieved this will receive 3 dojo points and will be logged. At the end of the half term, every child who has read 3 times EVERY week for that half term will be entered into a prize draw. As the children are Year 6, they are able to record their reading independently, however, a parent signature must be present at least once a week for them to be logged.

Our PE day is Monday afternoons

Swimming is on Monday afternoons

We have swimming on Monday afternoons. Children need a swimming costume/trunks and a towel. A swimming cap for long hair is recommended, as are goggles. The children who attended swimming towards the end of Year 5 will be taught PE by Mr Mellor during the time the remainder of the class are swimming. They will resume their sessions later on in the year.
